Inspired by weightlessness and forces of nature, this project aims to bring a new aesthetic quality to a traditional fruit bowl. “POIJU” is the result of the challenge to design a tray for three oranges. During the design process, I pursued an appearance in which the fruits seem floating. Utilizing both handcraft and CNC machine I gave my fruit tray an interesting yet playful design – one that creates an illusion of three buoys riding on a wave. “POIJU” is coated with tung oil to achieve more vibrant walnut tree pattern and durable, food safe finish. The final product was displayed for the public at Helsinki Design Week 2021 exhibition.
